Strange Lands of Poetry
Here is a YouTube video of me singing Strange Lands of Poetry on my sailboat, while anchored out on a river:

Words of Strange Lands of Poetry by Mark Mason:
Oh where are you taking me, lady of mine?
Where are you leading me?
To strange lands of poetry you entice me,
Of Hafiz and Dickinson,
Where strangers give you great kingdoms,
And press them right into your hand,
And young women follow rats to the desert,
And die there of thirst in the sand,
In the sand, in the sand.

Oh where are you taking me, lady of mine?
Where are you leading me?
To strange lands of poetry you entice me,
Of Wordsworth and Coleridge,
Where ice, mast high, comes floating by,
As green as emerald,
And children come down from heaven,
Trailing clouds of glory,
Of glory, of glory.

Bridge:
I don’t know if you’ve been to these kingdoms,
But you can come with me if you will,
Just open a book of poetry,
And take of it all of your fill.
I’ll build you a castle of magic,
Up on the rise of the hill.

Oh where are you taking me, lady of mine?
Where are you leading me?
To strange lands of poetry you entice me,
Of Yeats and Kahlil Gibran,
Where a man loves the pilgrim soul in you,
And your sorrow unmasked is your joy,
It’s your joy, your great joy.

Instrumental of verse and bridge

Verse 1

G                            C        D7                     G
No matter what we do, no matter where we go,
                               C          A       D Dsus2 D Dsus4
No matter what our troubles on the way,
      G                      C                D                        G
No matter what we say, to each other through the day,
        C                D7             G
I will be with you there in the morning,

No matter if you fail sometimes to be the queen of hearts,
And if the romance doesn’t even start,
I will love you just the same, as if you were on flame,
And I’ll be with you there in the morning,
Always with you there in the morning.

A             D              A               D
It is just a fact of life; it is just the way,
C                        G                        Asus2         A   D
That we come to know each other just the way we are.
      Bm        D7          C           D                         G
It’s how we learn and grow, so better seeds we’ll sow,
         C              D               G
In the rest of our live’s many mornings.
               C                      D7               G                           C
But when things are going well, and we rise to heaven from hell,
      D        Dsus2 D7sus2  D7          G
It’s such a joy to have you here with me.

And when the sparks fly high from the fires of met desires,
And I wake up with you warm in my arms,
That’s the better not the worse of what I’ve had since birth,
And that’s what keeps me ever with you in the morning,
That’s what keeps me ever with you in the morning,
I always will be there in the morning!

Garden in the Sun

Play Garden in the Sun.mp3:

Got to go now to my cabin by the stream,
Got to get there tonight.
Got to get back to the people who I love,
Who are living in community, there.
This is my bliss, it is where I belong,
And you can come along.

Got to get away from the workaholic city,
Got to get away from the TV.
Got to get back to the farm and the forest,
Where I can live mindfully,
Where we are planting change’s seed,
And letting it grow for others to see!

Bridge:
This is where we grow our food
In a permaculture garden.
And this is where we raise our children
To love themselves and others.
This is where we learn to live
In harmony with nature,
The way we all must learn to live,
If we want to have a future.

Got to let go of yesterday’s ideas,
That have just about ruined our planet.
Thinking we are separate from nature and each other,
And there’ll always be more to exploit.
We need to know that we all are one,
In our garden in the sun.

Got to abandon the crazy idea,
That buying things will make us happy.
And start doing less and being more,
In love and understanding.
That way we’re planting change’s seed,
And letting it grow for others to see!

Got to go now to my cabin by the stream,
Got to get there tonight.
Got to get back to the farm and the forest,
Where I can live mindfully,
Where we are planting change’s seed,
And letting it grow for others to see!

Live by the Words We Say - Lyrics by Mark Mason

Performed by Eugene Peace Choir

Play Live by the Words.mp3:

- Contains editorial suggestions by Val Rogers and members of the Eugene Peace Choir
- to be sung to the music of the traditional song "Down to the River to Pray"

"Peace between countries must rest on the solid foundation of love between individuals"
"Be the change you wish to see in the world"
- Mahatma Ghandi

Let's all live, live by the words we say.
Let's all live by the words we say.
Let's all live by the words we say.

Verse 1 (Soprano 1)
If we can live by the words we say,
following a true and honest way,
then who can tell what peace may come,
if we can live that way?

Chorus 1
O brother, let's all live,
let's all live, truly live.
O brother, let's all live, live in that honest way.

Verse 2 (Men)
If we can live in that honest way,
showing others kindness day by day,
then we can shine the light of love,
and peace will come to stay.

Chorus 2
O sister, let's all love,
let's all love, truly love.
O sister, let's all love, love in that peaceful way.

Verse 3 (All)
If we can love in that peaceful way,
showing others kindness, day by day,
then we can shine the light of hope,
and joy will come to stay.

Chorus 3
O children, let's all grow,
let's all grow, truly grow.
O children, let's all grow, grow in that joyful way.

Verse 4 (Soprano 1)
If we can live by the words we say,
following a true and honest way,
then who can tell what peace may come,
if we can live that way?

Chorus 4 (×2)
O people, let's all live,
let's all live, truly live.
O people, let’s all live, live by the words we say.

(Oh brothers) live by the words we say.
(Oh sisters) live by the words we say.

Sunshine and Rain - Words and music by Mark Mason

Play Sunshine and Rain:

Got your letter just the other day, babe,
And it's on my mind every hour of the day.
You'll be on that plane and coming back to me, now.
Just another week and you'll be on your way!

Give me sunshine give me rain, all the weather's just the same,
While waiting here for you to come to me, babe.
I'll be lying in the sun or running in the rain,
Thinking of you coming home again.

I'll meet you at the airport at the touchdown,
And crane my neck for my first view of you!
And I'm sure I'll never ever be so happy
As the moment when again I'm hugging you!

Give me sunshine give me rain, all the weather's just the same,
While waiting here for you to come to me, babe.
I'll be lying in the sun or running in the rain,
Thinking of you coming home again.

Oh, how could you do it, how could you leave me lonely?
That's how I felt a year ago when first you went away.
Now you're returning early and I don't know what to say!

Going to and from the place I work at,
I remember how it was a year ago.
And now you're coming home again to stay, dear.
I'm so happy I could reach and touch the sky!

Give me sunshine give me rain, all the weather's just the same,
While waiting here for you to come to me, babe.
I'll be lying in the sun or running in the rain,
Thinking of you coming home again.

Thinking of you coming home again!

New Age Coming In - Words and music by Mark Mason

Play New Age Coming In.mp3:

The words of this song follow. The words are "sung" by the cello in the mp3.

Who are you? Who am I?
Am I just my body?
Or do I have a soul within,
More real and there to guide me?
More and more I know that I am
Guided on the way,
Along the clouded road ahead,
And through life’s complex maze.
Don’t say it’s just coincidence,
And not God’s grace that guides us,
That all we’ve seen is just by chance,
And life is just self-interest!
But sit down silently and still,
And let your thoughts wind down,
Within you then you soon will find
God’s kingdom all around.
Oh won’t you share it with me?
It’s there for us to know.
You’ll lose all fear and only want to
Love and give and grow.

There’s a new age coming in,
Of harmony and loving,
Of peace and happiness for those who
Know that God’s within them.
More and more you’ll come to see that
You’ve been made divine,
A child of God,
A sister to the whole of humankind.
So look at your ambitions now,
And look within your self now!
Find the peace of God within
That’s past all understanding.
And sit down silently and still,
And let your thoughts wind down,
Within you then you soon will find
You can hear the cosmic sound.
Oh won’t you share it with me?
It’s there for us to know.
You’ll lose all fear and only want to
Love and give and grow.

Your Sweet Love - Words and music by Mark Mason

This song has been arranged for SATB a capella choir, and this arangement won third prize in an international song writing competition conducted by the Eugene Peace Choir. A part of the prize was that the Peace Choir would perform the work, however they did not perform it, and it has not yet been performed. Lying looking up at the sky,
Sun shining in the corner of my eye.
The blue sky swims, it’s a part of my mind,
Part of my mind.

Peace on Earth is what I can feel,
Somehow today it feels so real,
Everywhere so much love is around,
Love is around.

I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it,
I can see that it is real:
It’s not just a state of my mind,
It’s the realest thing to me.

Why do I feel this way?
What has made me want to say?
Your sweet love has made me feel real,
Made me feel real.

I’ll never need more than that,
To see that joy is where it’s at;
If you have taught me that,
What more do I need?
What more could I want?
What could it ever be?

Clouds flying low in the buffeting breeze,
They like me are so free and at peace.
Drifting along enjoying the day,
Enjoying the day.

Up to now I’ve never quite seen,
What joy in life could be taken to mean.
I’ve never really expected so much,
As now I have seen.
